Spokesperson Training - In Review

Update 9/12/06: The Spokesperson Training Workshop was a success! This training was held on August 16, 2006 and was a half-day workshop which taught you how to present your arguments while “keeping your cool” in a debate, anti-nuclear press conference, or other high-pressure environment.

The workshop began with a presentation from Tim Pettit of Duke Energy’s nuclear communications department. Tim gave us the Duke Energy perspective on speaking with the media and members of the public regarding nuclear power. He taught us how to prepare our statements and answer pointed questions.

In the afternoon, a Communication Specialist from the American Nuclear Society gave an workshop on public speaking in stressful environments, focusing on helping speakers to be effective in creating and delivering third party messages about nuclear science and technology to different mediums.   This was a hands-on, interactive, and team-building workshop.

Thanks to Tim and Prema for their excellent workshop sessions!  If you are interested in any of the media or information handed out during the workshop, please contact our Carolina Chapter President.
