The 2007 NA-YGN Annual Professional Development Workshop was held in Miami, Florida on May 22-24. Representatives from NA-YGN chapters were gathered to listen to presentations from leaders in the nuclear industry. It is an opportunity which invites an exchange of ideas and a place to discuss concerns, problems, and successes with peers. Several members of the Carolina chapter attended the conference. 2007 NA-YGN Annual Professional Develpment Workshop
Published by November 28th, 2007 in Professional Development.Carolina NA-YGN recently sent a member to the 2007 American Nuclear Society Winter Conference. For this conference, “Making the Renaissance Real”, nuclear professionals from around the country met (November 11th-17th) in Washington, D.C. Lectures hinged upon the theme of the current revival of interest in nuclear power as the cleanest, most cost effective answer to our nation’s energy needs. In the run-up to the week’s events, the ANS YMG (Young Members Group) partnered with NA-YGN to present the Young Professionals Congress, a series of lectures examining many of the challenges of today’s nuclear industry with a particular focus on the young professionals’ roles and the opportunities they are likely to have over the course of their careers.
This month’s Engineering Explorers Post 228 Program is on Electrical Engineering. The students will be building an electronic counter using breadboards. Since it is close to the holidays, we need volunteers of all types, especially if you happen to be an electrical engineer or good with circuits. The program will be from 6pm to 9pm Tuesday, November 20. If you are interested in volunteering, email PublicInfo ‘at’ carolina-naygn.org.
Carolina YGN is teaming up with EPRI and AREVA to supply volunteers for a high school engineering program. Engineering Explorers Post 228 is a program for local high school students geared towards teaching about the different engineering disciplines using hands-on experiments and tours. The program needs volunteers to help out from 6pm-9pm on the second Tuesday of each month. If you are interested in volunteering email PublicInfo ‘at’ carolina-naygn.org. The 2007 NA-YGN Regional Conference was held this past August in Charlotte, NC. The theme of this year’s event was “Racing Towards Your Future”.

The Carolina NA-YGN 4-Site Meeting was held this past March in Spartanburg. The agenda included an update of National YGN events for the year, committee updates on their activities the past year, a presentation on the company in 10 years, a panel discussion by current management and technical tracks on how they got where they are today, an employee retention idea session, and a team building challenge.
