The Carolina NA-YGN 4-Site Meeting was held this past March in Spartanburg. The agenda included an update of National YGN events for the year, committee updates on their activities the past year, a presentation on the company in 10 years, a panel discussion by current management and technical tracks on how they got where they are today, an employee retention idea session, and a team building challenge.
National YGN events for 2007 include the National YGN Professional Development Conference in Miami, FL, and the Young Professionals Congress/ANS Conference in Washington DC.
2006 PD Committee Update: The PD Committee kicked off the Bridge the Divide Mentoring program, which provides the opportunity for senior level managers to interact with Carolina YGN members. In August, the PD Committee conducted a Spokesperson Training workshop. This was a half-day workshop which taught you how to present your arguments while “keeping your cool” in a debate, anti-nuclear press conference, or other high pressure environment.
2006 Communications Committee Update: The Communications Committee built and maintained this website, created a YGN pamphlet for new members, and published the first Carolina Chapter YGN newsletter. The Communications Committee is still needing volunteers to sign up!
2007 PI Update: The PI Committee sent volunteers to judge the 2007 FIRST Lego Tournament, attended the DOE GNEP PEIS Public Comment meeting, gave a presentation to high school students about radiation protection and shielding, sent volunteers to judge the Charlotte 2007 Regional Science Fair and awarded 4 Excellence in Energy awards, and one of our members organized the USC Working in the Nuclear Industry Colloquium.
The team building activity was a roller coaster challenge. The meeting attendees divided up into three teams led by the committee chairs and competed to see who could construct the best popsicle stick roller coaster. Coming in 1st place was the Communications Committee under Ryan Boyle.
