2007 NA-YGN Local Drawing Contest Winners

In October of 2007 our chapter participated in the NA-YGN Drawing Contest.  YGN members give a presentation to 5th graders on the different ways to produce electricity, how nuclear fission works, and everyday applications of nuclear science and technology.  This year Adam Strange, Paul Swaney, Ashley Peterman and Sarah Chisholm presented to Hornets Nest and Ashley Park Elementary schools.  Our chapter held a local contest.  First place went to Brittany Murphy.  The runners-up were Richele Young, Taylor Seabrooks, and India Headen. PD and PI hours up big in 2007

Our chapter logged around 950 hours of Professional Development and Public Information activities in 2007. We helped contribute along with over 40 other chapters to the 33,529 hours reported by our overall NA-YGN organization. Compare this to only 12,000 hours in 2006.  Our organization has done a great job growing more active.

Thanks to everyone who contributed!

November Engineering Explorers Post Program

This month’s Engineering Explorers Post 228 Program is on Electrical Engineering.  The students will be building an electronic counter using breadboards.  Since it is close to the holidays, we need volunteers of all types, especially if you happen to be an electrical engineer or good with circuits.  The program will be from 6pm to 9pm Tuesday, November 20.  If you are interested in volunteering, email PublicInfo ‘at’ carolina-naygn.org.

Engineering Explorers Post 228

Carolina YGN is teaming up with EPRI and AREVA to supply volunteers for a high school engineering program.  Engineering Explorers Post 228 is a program for local high school students geared towards teaching about the different engineering disciplines using hands-on experiments and tours.  The program needs volunteers to help out from 6pm-9pm on the second Tuesday of each month.  If you are interested in volunteering email PublicInfo ‘at’ carolina-naygn.org.  More information can be found on the program website.
