The Public Information area of our chapter is focused on promoting the public’s understanding of nuclear science and technology. Current Public Information activities include:
- Annual NA-YGN Drawing Contest: Committee members go to local schools and give a brief presentation to 4th or 5th graders on the topic of nuclear science and technology. The students are then encouraged to submit a drawing about what they learned during the presentation for the drawing contest. These drawings are displayed and judged each year at the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Winter Meetings.
- Nuclear Fact Sheets: The committee is publishing a series of one-page fact sheets geared towards educating the public about current nuclear hot topics. Current Fact Sheets are:
- Public Outreach: Committee members attend nuclear-related events and provide a positive message about the nuclear industry. Members will also write to local papers and elected officials explaining different nuclear issues.
- School Programs: Committee members give brief presentations to middle and high school students.
